چکیده

Purpose Wedging of L5 vertebral body and rounding of the surface of the sacrum are well-documented deformities associated with spondylolytic spondylolisthesis. The contribution of such deformities to vertebral slippage has been a matter of controversy, although the results of many follow-up clinical studies have Indicated that the deformities are a consequence of the slippage rather than the causative factors (2, 6). In order to develop an appropriate treatment to prevent such deformities, their pathomechanism must be elucidated. Establishment of an appropriate experimental model would be a key step in this directions. The purpose of this study was, thus, to examine vertebral deformities secondary to posterior destabilizing surgery in rats, and to compare them with the morphological changes of the lumbo-sacral spine in patients with spondylolytic olisthesis in children and adolescents.

A single posterior approach for vertebral column resection in adults with severe rigid kyphosis

Abstract Background: Correction of severe kyphosis is a challenging operation in spinal surgery. A two stage operation has been commonly used: anterior release and decompression followed by posterior correction and fusion. We describe the posterior vertebral osteotomy technique for correction of severe and rigid kyphosis through posterior-only approach. Methods: Twelve patients (six male and s...

The Effects of Posterior Spinal Fusion in Patients with Limitations of Anterior Approach: The Experience of Six Cases

Background & Importance: Spinal deformity is one of the most common disorders among the vertebral diseases that results from unnatural curvatures of spine, such as scoliosis and kyphosis. Spinal fusion surgery is used most commonly to treat certain types of spinal deformity. Herein, we reported the efficacy of posterior spinal fusion accompanied by instrumentation in patients with the...

The Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery Vertebral Growth Affer Posterior Spinal Fusion for Idiopathic Scoliosis in Skeletally Immature

We studied 29 girls and one boy with adolescent idiopathic scoliosis who were at Risser grade 0 at the time of posterior spinal fusion and were followed until maturity (mean 7.8 years). We used serial radiographs to measure the ratio of disc to vertebral height in the fused segments and to detect differential anterior spinal growth and assess its effect on scoliosis, vertebral rotation, kyphosi...

A review of the pathomechanism of forward slippage in pediatric spondylolysis: the Tokushima theory of growth plate slippage.

Spondylolysis is a stress fracture of the pars interarticularis, which in some cases progresses to spondylolisthesis (forward slippage of the vertebral body). This slip progression is prevalent in children and occurs very rarely after spinal maturation. The pathomechanism and predilection for children remains controversial despite considerable clinical and basic research into the disorder over ...

Experimental scoliosis in an immature goat model: a method that creates idiopathic-type deformity with minimal violation of the spinal elements along the curve.

STUDY DESIGN Experimental scoliosis was created in an immature goat model. OBJECTIVES To create a progressive, structural, idiopathic-type, lordoscoliotic curve convex to the right in the thoracic spine of the immature goat while maintaining the anterior and posterior elements of the spine along the maximal curve in a pristine state. SUMMARY OF BACKGROUND DATA Progressive scoliotic curves i...
